new babies

My blue tail guppy has done me proud by dropping about 20 fry this afternoon. Hopefully they will be all big and strong.

foo fighters

I wasn’t here yesterday as I was driving to Manchester to see the Foo Fighters. They were awesome giving the audience a 2hr set of classic and new music as well as a mix of humour you would expect from Dave. Highlights include, My Hero and an incredible Triangle solo by Drew Hester.

sunday

Not much happened Sunday. Still buzzing from my flying on saturday. I did see two Tornados screaming above my house. Leaving an airshow I expect. They are part of the RAF role demonstration team.

home

I’m feeling fab today, as I went flying in an R22 helicopter today. This is the first time since moving house last year. It’s always nice to look at things from the air, a different perspective I suppose.

The weather was nice.

SQL

I got the VMWare servers on the new VLAN working nicely today. The rest of my day has been trying to help resolve reports in SQL as the numbers added up badly. Never mind, Friday tomorrow.

I think I should eat some cake and cream now.

SCOM

Final round of presentations for Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager today.
System Center Operations Manager

We were down to two suppliers and invited them in, for a final presentation to the IT managers, so they can get an idea of what SCOM 2007 can deliver from a service prospective. I think it was received very well and I’m now looking forward to the project kick off meeting in a few weeks.

This should dovetail nicely with the data centre migration in a couple of weeks time where the servers move into our new APC InfraStruXure Data Centre.

feeding time

The fry have had a treat today, instead of crushed up flake, I’ve given them some daphnia to chase around the nursery tank.

So they don’t feel left out, I put some brine shrimp in the main tank too. I have to say it was a bit of a feeding frenzy in the main tank!

VMWare

Back to work today after the wet and windy bank holiday. My mezzanine cards for the BL680c blade servers arrived today. I look after a 4 node vmware HA cluster, and the new cards mean I can P2V some of the subsidiary servers that sit on a different VLAN.

The vmware nodes we run are monsters. 4x quad core Xeon CPU with 64GB memory (yeah GB) attached to the SAN and EVA 6000 I also manage and maintain. (I specialise in hardware and infrastructure)

I should have a network to plug them into tomorrow. sweet.

New babies?

Well after looking at the tank for maybe 30 mins, I’ve just discovered 6 baby mollies in the tank. I didn’t notice them before, as they are hiding in the plants, very close to the bottom. Most of the fry I’ve seen in the main tank congregate in some java moss near the surface of the tank.

Wow, molly fry. Shame the father died, but good that we have a generation to nurture.

Good morning

This is my first post on wordpress. My first thing I’d like to pass on, is the fun morning I’ve had so far. Discussing Determinism  and free will. I believe strongly in determinism but as a soft determinist.

Also this morning I enjoyed watching my baby tropical fish tank, that contains 3 batches of fry. The biggest of which was being chased around by the others due to the fact he had a crushed snail (I did the honours) in his mouth with the rest of it still attached.
